The Eco-Epicurean Gourmet Farm to Table Fasting Diet™ is based on the fasting mimicking diet research of Dr. Valter Longo based out of the USC Leonard Davis School of Gerontology. In the fasting mimicking diet system, fasting’s optimal effects are achieved not by starvation or nutrient deprivation, but by manipulating the body’s nutrient sensing pathways through specific calorie and macronutrient restriction, to maximally prolong longevity and increase the body’s anti-aging and detoxification mechanisms. Through Dr. Longo’s research, we’ve learned how observing macro nutrient and calorie guidelines for short periods of time is more effective with less side effects to the body compared to strict food deprivation or water fasting.
With the understanding of macronutrient and calorie parameters that trick the body into believing it is fasting, and with the gourmet culinary experience of our staff at Pohala Lodge, sourcing local farm to table nutrients, we have adapted the original fasting mimicking diet to offer a protocol of medically supervised fasting that is not only effective but delicious and that offers locally and organically grown ingredients.
